MDU is investor owned, so Wyo. Stat. § 37-16-101 et seq., net metering applies and these terms are set by the state rather than by a board that can revise them. That is the strongest position a homeowner can be in on net metering.

- Wyoming has an individual system capacity limit of 25 kW and no specified statewide net metering cap. Tight per system, open in aggregate, which is the reverse of most states.
- Municipal systems are excluded
- Most utilities are obliged to provide net metering; municipally owned ones are not. If your bill comes from a town, ask what it offers rather than what the state requires.
- 25 kW binds a ranch long before it binds a house
- For an ordinary home it is ample. For agricultural or small commercial load it is frequently the number that decides the design, so check it first.
- The Legislature keeps reopening the subject
- Net metering has been a recurring topic for interim committees. Nothing has changed, but confirm the current arrangement in writing rather than relying on a guide that may predate a session.
