These are real companies operating in NV Energy South territory, ordered by reviews, years trading and BBB grade. None of them pays us for placement. Pick the one you want and we will call you to arrange it.
Ordering combines three things we read from primary sources: Google review count and rating, years trading taken from the company’s Better Business Bureau profile rather than its own marketing, and its BBB letter grade. BBB accreditation is shown but never scored, because it is a paid membership rather than a mark of quality.
Check any contractor license yourself at the state register. Do that before you sign anything, with any company, including ours.
What this looks like on a NV Energy South bill
An average Nevada household, against a system sized to cover its year. The energy charge is the part that goes to zero. The fixed monthly charge underneath it is the part that never does, and it is the number that decides whether a system pays for itself.
Meter reading falling from 41926 to 41667 kilowatt hours. A 930 kilowatt hour month against 1,189 kilowatt hours produced leaves 0 kilowatt hours billed and 259 banked for next month, so the energy charge falls from $121.92 to $0.00 at 13.11 cents per kilowatt hour.
Nevada average household use, 930 kWh a month, at the current published residential price of 13.11¢ per kWh. Your utility still bills a fixed monthly customer charge that no system offsets, so this is the energy part of the bill, which is the part that goes away.
What your installer should be telling you
Confirm which netting interval applies to you. New northern Nevada customers from 1 October 2025 are netted every fifteen minutes rather than monthly, which is a real reduction for the same system.
What NV Energy South bills you anyway
In a month when your production covers everything you use, the energy charge can reach zero. This does not. It is the floor under every bill, and it is the number that decides whether a system pays for itself.
- The charge
- $18.00 a month for a house, $8.20 in an apartment, and about $18.90 with the county fee
- How it is set
- Which figure applies to you depends on the building, not the usage. Residential Single-Family (RS) carries a “Basic Service Charge, per month $18.00”; Residential Multi-Family (RM), for a separately metered unit in an apartment complex, carries $8.20; and three-phase service falls under Large Residential Service instead. The schedule then makes it the floor in one line: “Minimum Charge: The minimum charge for service is the Basic Service Charge.” A percentage sits on top of that and it does reach the fixed charge. The Local Government Fee “is calculated by the percent of the fee (Clark County currently is five (5) percent) multiplied by the subtotal of your bill”, and the subtotal includes the Basic Service Charge — so a Las Vegas household nets to about $18.90 rather than $18.00, and the exact figure depends on which local government you are inside. There is also a Universal Energy Charge of $0.00039 a kilowatt hour under NRS 702, but that one moves with the energy and falls away with it. Energy above the floor runs a total effective 11.514 cents a kilowatt hour on RS and 10.611 cents on RM from 1 October 2026, down from 12.093 and 11.159 cents in January. The net metering schedule keeps the same $18.00 and $8.20 charges for solar households and prices excess energy by tier: on RS, 10.573 cents at Tier 1 down to 8.347 cents at Tier 4, the tier new customers take.

Applying to NV Energy South
What NV Energy South itself requires, as distinct from what the state rule requires. Read from its own published guidelines on the date shown.
- The first three tiers are gone
- Tier 1 at 95% of retail, Tier 2 at 88% and Tier 3 at 81% are all closed. New customers take Tier 4 at 75%, which has no capacity limit and stays open unless the Legislature changes it.
- Up to your own usage you still get the full retail rate
- The 75% figure applies only to excess energy beyond your monthly consumption. Energy that offsets what you actually use is worth the full retail rate, which makes sizing to your usage unusually important here.
- Northern Nevada now nets every fifteen minutes
- New solar customers installing in northern Nevada from 1 October 2025 have credits calculated every fifteen minutes rather than monthly. Southern Nevada customers and existing northern customers keep monthly netting. Same panels, same tier, materially different outcome.
- Your tier is locked for twenty years, at that address
- Customers keep their tier’s rate for twenty years at the original installation location. It is tied to the premises, so moving means starting again at whatever tier is then current.
- You cannot be moved into a solar-only rate class
- Net metering customers remain in the same rate class as customers without solar and cannot be charged discriminatory fees. That protection is not present in most states.
- Ask which netting interval applies before you sign
- It is the single question that separates two otherwise identical Nevada quotes, and it depends on which half of the state the roof is in and when the application was filed.

NV Energy South net metering questions
- Does NV Energy South offer one for one net metering?
- Yes. Tier 4 credits excess energy at 75% of the retail rate above your own monthly consumption, with energy offsetting your usage still worth the full retail rate. The tier is held for twenty years. Credits roll over for the full twenty year term.
- What does NV Energy South pay for power sent back to the grid?
- Full retail to your usage, 75% above it.
- Do I need a battery with NV Energy South?
- Not for the economics. NV Energy South credits exports at the retail rate, so power you send out during the day comes back at the same value after dark without storage. A battery is still worth considering for outages during hurricane season, but it is an upgrade here rather than a requirement.
