Applying to NV Energy North

What NV Energy North itself requires, as distinct from what the state rule requires. Read from its own published guidelines on the date shown.

The first three tiers are gone
Tier 1 at 95% of retail, Tier 2 at 88% and Tier 3 at 81% are all closed. New customers take Tier 4 at 75%, which has no capacity limit and stays open unless the Legislature changes it.
Up to your own usage you still get the full retail rate
The 75% figure applies only to excess energy beyond your monthly consumption. Energy that offsets what you actually use is worth the full retail rate, which makes sizing to your usage unusually important here.
Northern Nevada now nets every fifteen minutes
New solar customers installing in northern Nevada from 1 October 2025 have credits calculated every fifteen minutes rather than monthly. Southern Nevada customers and existing northern customers keep monthly netting. Same panels, same tier, materially different outcome.
Your tier is locked for twenty years, at that address
Customers keep their tier’s rate for twenty years at the original installation location. It is tied to the premises, so moving means starting again at whatever tier is then current.
You cannot be moved into a solar-only rate class
Net metering customers remain in the same rate class as customers without solar and cannot be charged discriminatory fees. That protection is not present in most states.
Ask which netting interval applies before you sign
It is the single question that separates two otherwise identical Nevada quotes, and it depends on which half of the state the roof is in and when the application was filed.

NV Energy North net metering questions

Does NV Energy North offer one for one net metering?
Yes. Tier 4 credits excess energy at 75% of the retail rate above your own monthly consumption, with energy offsetting your usage still worth the full retail rate. The tier is held for twenty years. Credits roll over for the full twenty year term.
What does NV Energy North pay for power sent back to the grid?
Full retail to your usage, 75% above it.
Do I need a battery with NV Energy North?
Not for the economics. NV Energy North credits exports at the retail rate, so power you send out during the day comes back at the same value after dark without storage. A battery is still worth considering for outages during hurricane season, but it is an upgrade here rather than a requirement.
